The Open class is for dogs that have the CD title.
The exercises are:
Heel off lead with figure 8. The handler/dog team go through a heeling pattern called out by the judge. There will be at least one 90* right turn, one 90* left turn, one 180* right about turn, a fast pace, slow pace and halts. The team then does the figure 8 exercise as in Novice except that it is performed off lead.
Drop on Recall: The handler leaves the dog in a sit position and walks about 40 feet away. On the judge’s order the handler will call the dog to come. The judge will then signal the handler to down the dog. The dog must down quickly when told. Once the dog is down the handler will recall the dog again. The dog must come and sit in front of the handler facing the handlers legs. On order from the judge to “finish” the handler commands the dog to heel. The dog moves from the sit front position and returns to the handlers left side finishing in the sit at heel position.
Retrieve on the flat: The handler has the dog wait in heel position while he throws a dumbbell at least 20 feet out. The handler then sends the dog to retrieve the dumbbell with one command. The dog must go get the dumbbell and return to the handler sitting in front as in the recall exercise while holding the dumbbell until the handler takes it from the dog. The handler will then command the dog to “finish” (go to heel position and sit).
Retrieve over the High jump: The handler has the dog wait in heel position while he throws the dumbbell over a solid jump (high jump). On order from the judge the handler sends his dog with one command to retrieve the dumbbell. The dog must go out over the jump, get the dumbbell, return over the jump and sit in front of the handler while holding the dumbbell. The handler takes the dumbbell and commands the dog to finish (go to heel position and sit) on the judges order.
Broad Jump: The dog is left in a sit position approximately 8 feet back from a long jump. The handler walks to and faces the side of the jump. On order from the judge the handler commands his dog to leap the jump. The dog must clear the whole jump and come to a sit front position (the handler will pivot 90* while the dog is in the air). The handler will then command the dog to “finish” (go to the sit at heel position).
Long Sit, handlers out of sight (group exercise): The long sit is for 3 minutes. The dogs are lined up along one side of the ring and commanded to stay. The handlers will cross the ring and then exit to a place out of sight of the dogs.
Long Down, handlers out of sight: The long down is for 5 minutes. The dogs are lined up along one side of the ring and commanded to stay. The handlers will cross the ring and then exit to a place out of sight of the dogs.
