The English cocker is the original “Cocker spaniel”. The American type was created from the English type. The English cocker is an active, merry sporting dog that loves to work which is confirmed by his constantly wagging tail when in the field.

The English cocker is a medium small breed 15-17 inches at the shoulder and weighing 26-34 lbs.

Color varies. Solid colors are black, liver or shades of red. Parti-colors are either clearly marked, ticked or roaned, the white appearing in combination with black, liver or shades of red. The markings should be more or less evenly distributed.

The coat of the English cocker is of medium length on the body laying flat or slightly wavy. The leg and belly hair is longer than that of the body but not so long as to interfere with field work. It should never be as heavily coated as the American cocker spaniel!

English cockers require daily brushing to keep them tangle free. Trimming is required on the head and body to keep them looking great!
